What are the 5 Basic Consumer Rights in the UAE?
Before you visit Dubai, there are a few do’s and don’ts that you should never forget. Given below are the UAE laws for tourists issued by the government.
Importing goods
Importing pork items and pornography into the country is illegal. Videos, books, and magazines may be censored.
Drugs
The penalties for trafficking, smuggling, and possession of drugs are huge. There is a possibility of receiving the death penalty for drug trafficking. Carrying even the smallest amount of drugs can lead to a minimum of three-month imprisonment or a fine as per UAE drug law. Even the presence of drugs in the blood is punishable.
Alcohol
In Dubai, tourists are eligible to get a temporary liquor licence for a month from the two official liquor distributors. Tourists must follow rules and regulations for purchasing, transporting, and consuming liquor in Dubai.
Dress code
Women should dress modestly in public places. Clothes should cover the shoulders and knees, and underwear should not be visible. Swimsuits should be worn only on beaches or at swimming pools. Cross-dressing is forbidden.
Hotels
Hotels will take a photocopy of your passport or Emirates ID. Minors should be accompanied by an adult.
Offensive behaviour
Swearing and making rude gestures come under obscene acts and will be jailed or deported. Public displays of affection are forbidden.
Sexual relationships outside marriage
Consensual sexual relationships between a male and female outside marriage even if they are above the age of 18 years are considered extra-marital sexual relationships, which is illegal under UAE law.
